Villeneuve prepares to compete with Shell Racing at Goiania
20th, March, 2015
Jacques Villeneuve, the Formula 1 Champion in 1997 and winner of the Indianapolis 500 in 1995 will be the team-mate of Ricardo Zonta with Shell Racing this weekend.
Among the great stars of the Doubles Race, marking the start of the 2015 Brazilian Stock Car season on Sunday in Goiania, it is difficult to pinpoint which driver has the most successful curriculum. But certainly the 1997 World Champion of Formula 1 and Indy 500 winner is a favourite to occupy the top of the list: Canadian Jacques Villeneuve, who will form double with his former team-mate in F1, Ricardo Zonta in Shell Racing.
This will be the second appearance of Villeneuve in Brazilian Stock Car, but the first in a Doubles Race in the Brazilian category. In 2011, the Canadian made a cameo in Rush Million at Interlagos, the first race of the Shell Racing team in this category. Villeneuve hopes to ensure that the experience in Brazil has everything to be as positive as the first one.
"This is probably the most memorable race for me and the most important as I met my wife at the Stock Car event in Interlagos and now we have two children," said the Canadian. "Regarding the sports part, it was special to run on a course with so many fans in the stands and lead the race at one point," added Villeneuve, “It will be a special race.”
Zonta, who ran with the Canadian at BAR in 1999 and 2000 in F1 said: "It will certainly be an unforgettable first race, forming a duo with Jacques (Villeneuve), reissuing the F1 times shared together with the same team. Only this time, we run with a single car and we will fight together for the same result. He has been very interested, with direct contact with the team and me. I'm sure we will be competitive".
TV Globo will show the Doubles Race Stock Car on Sunday 22nd March from 10.30.
